If Trey Lance had played well in this game, fans would want him to start Week 1. Kyle Shanahan can't let that happen. So he called a bunch of passes, not the typical 49ers offense.

Trey Lance: 20 drop backs, 7 handoffs.
Sam Darnold: 8 drop backs, 9 handoffs. If it's a quarterback competition, make it even @kyleshanahan.

This is a wild theory. Those wanting to bench Brock Purdy, after he went undefeated in games he was healthy are the worst. However, in this case, we are interested especially after some facts, were brought out.
We see two major flaws with this theory. The first is why would Kyle Shanahan want Trey Lance to fail. It was this regime that wanted Trey Lance and gave up an absurd amount to get him. His performance in the NFL so far has been a blemish on this regime not a plus. They would want nothing more than Trey Lance being the player they thought he would be. Those in the locker room may like Brock Purdy but that is because of his production, if Lance was better they would have no issue with him starting.
The second is that Trey Lance just has not looked good. During this game he had chances to shine, even with the line problems, he didn’t.
We are all rooting for Trey Lance, we’d be stunned if Kyle Shanahan was actively trying to make sure he didn’t play good.
